Each of these photos were taken from my iPhone 6 on the first day of class. The purpose of the project was to get a feel for what you enjoy photographing, whether it be scenery, object, or people. I think my most successful photos were of the bark and hair dryer. I enjoy photographing in black and white, it makes a photo more dramatic and have more emotion. The wood was the hardest to photograph because of the angles and oblong shape. I would like to photograph the bark again because it has the most texture.
Selfie
A selfie is usually portrayed as a person smiling and being something they are not. I think a selfie is not necessarily yourself but of an emotion felt in the moment. You do not need the best lighting or the happy memories in life to create a selfie. I am trying to portray a person who you cannot tell what their emotion is but makes the viewer think how the person in the photograph is feeling and let the viewer decide. I chose black and white because this is the type of photo I think speaks the most. The experience I have had has been just in a regular backyard or on vacations. I really enjoy photographing people and nature because every living thing has a story to tell and a photo is a way of capturing the story.
I decided to experiment photographing nature to practice aperture and depth of field. These were all taking in behind the Cushing Village Townhouses here at Siena. It was interesting to me to see how differences in lighting and high and low aperture settings could change the depth of a picture drastically.
In this series I tried to capture the essence of nature and the uniqueness of each location. Each location is in the same vicinity but each picture shows a different aspect of composition being portrayed. My favorite photo is of the tree, looking from the trunk to the top exactly beneath it. This is not a viewpoint a person would usually see, many people sit underneath but never look up.
